Receivers and Positioning Systems

VEMCO manufactures a complete line of receivers to detect signals from our ultrasonic coded and continuous transmitters.  We design and manufacture receivers that will enable the researcher to conduct automated tracking studies, carry out real time field tracking, or collect detailed positioning data. Our receiver equipment includes:

Monitoring Receivers

  • VR2W-180kHz -  submersible, single channel receiver with Bluetooth® wireless technology capable of identifying VEMCO's line of 180-kHz frequency coded transmitters.
  • VR2W -  submersible, single channel receiver with Bluetooth® wireless technology capable of identifying VEMCO coded transmitters.
  • VR2W Underwater Upload Cable -  retrieve data from VR2W acoustic receivers without bringing them to the surface.
  • VR3-UWM -  facilitates the recovery of data from the unit by providing a remote communication capability by means of underwater modem.
  • VUE Software -  for initialization, configuration and data upload from VEMCO receivers allows users to combine data from multiple receivers of varying types into a single integrated database.

Tracking Receivers

  • VR28 -  provides 360 degrees of monitoring coverage so that the transmitter bearing can be determined without having to rotate a directional hydrophone.
  • VR100 -  general-purpose ultrasonic receiver designed for manual tracking of aquatic animals from small boats or for recording laboratory data.

Positioning Systems

  • VPS (VR2W Positioning System) -  is a low cost, non-real-time underwater acoustic fine-scale positioning system, using the same off-the-shelf equipment used in conventional VR2W-based studies.
  • VRAP -  measures real-time, detailed position information from underwater acoustic transmitters using a series of three buoys and a two-way radio link to a base station.
