Issue 4, February 2007 We recently added a white paper on Understanding the Performance of Vemco 69 kHz Single Frequency Acoustic Telemetry to our website. This white paper was developed in response to customers wishing to have greater technical knowledge of how our equipment works in order to enhance their data analysis. The paper provides an overview of Vemco's 69 kHz fish telemetry "Network" and quantifies the performance to be expected as well as providing guidance to users which will help maximize the equipment's effectiveness for various study conditions. You can download the white paper in PDF format in its entirety or by individual chapter by visiting www.vemco.com/education/whitepapers.php. We have also added two new online calculators to our website, one for range calculations and one for residency calculations. Found in the Tools section under Education, the 69 kHz Sea Water Range Calculator predicts range in typical ocean conditions and is intended to give users a starting point in determining transmitter power, receiver spacing requirements, etc. VEMCO's Collision Calculator determines the time to detect all transmitters when multiple tagged fish are within range of a receiver, and also calculates detection rate and log capacity. We hope you find these new resources useful.
