Issue 12, June 2010
Since introducing new Global coding techniques and code spaces (see our March 2009 article) with vastly more unique IDs for pingers and sensor tags, many users around the world have upgraded their VR2s to VR2Ws. This ensures they can continue to detect all Vemco 69khz coded transmitters and stay compatible with the larger VEMCO acoustic telemetry community, regionally and globally. The current set of tag IDs will be fully depleted by the end of 2010. As a result, in the past several months, a growing number of users have started to deploy the new global transmitters in many locations and, therefore, we encourage the remaining users of VR2s to upgrade to VR2Ws and MAP-112 by the end of 2010 in order to maintain their compatibility and to have access to the new tags. To facilitate VR2 user upgrades, VEMCO is offering an attractive volume upgrade discount program with very quick turnaround. In addition to supporting the new tag types, VR2Ws also offer considerable more memory, faster offload with Bluetooth® technology than the VR2, and can be used in VEMCO's new VR2W fine scale positioning system, VPS For VR2 users who do not upgrade to VR2Ws, VEMCO will continue to provide sensor and pinger IDs on code spaces A69-1303 and A69-1105 by recycling expired IDs, managed through the VEMCO code database. Talk to your VEMCO sales representative about the VR2 upgrade program and volume discounts for your group of researchers, or reach us through our online contact form.
