Tip of the Quarter: Follow Proper Tag Activation and Deactivation Procedures

To ensure proper activation and deactivation of VEMCO transmitters, VEMCO recommends that you use a VEMCO VR100 acoustic receiver to detect the tag's activation and deactivation pings as well as to verify the ID code of the transmitter. Proper tag activation and deactivation procedures are described below:

Tag Activation
Activate (start) the tag by removing the magnet from the side of the tag. Once activated, the tag will emit three pings in rapid succession to indicate it is powered and then transmit its ID code 10 times in rapid succession. A VR100 should be used to verify this sequence and the tag ID. If the activation sequence is not heard, the tag may not have been properly deactivated prior to storage. Once the deactivation sequence has completed, the tag enters its normal mode of operation as programmed at the time of manufacture and will continue until the programmed end of life is reached. If the tag does not activate properly, contact VEMCO customer support. Do not strike or tap a tag.

Tag Deactivation
Deactivate (shut off) the tag by returning the magnet to the white bar or groove on the side of the tag. The tag will transmit 2 pings in rapid succession to indicate it has been successfully deactivated. The user should confirm that the magnet has been applied correctly by listening for the quick 2 pings with a VR100 and verify that it is no longer transmitting before storing the tags away. A poorly placed magnet could result in the tag not being properly deactivated and the tag storage life could be greatly shortened. Tags should be stored in the foam trays provided by VEMCO. Do not store tags with magnets next to each other as this could cause the tags to become activated.
