Employee Profile: Dale Webber, Research Biologist and Astronomy Buff

Dale Webber joined VEMCO in November of 1999 and recently celebrated his 10th anniversary with the company. Dale graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1981 with a B.Sc. degree (Honours) and went on to complete his M.Sc. in cephalopod energetics in 1985, also at Dalhousie. In 1999, Dale earned his Ph.D. in the cardiac physiology of fish from Cambridge University.

Prior to joining VEMCO, Dale worked on a team at Dalhousie as a Research Associate to develop innovative techniques for measuring energy expenditure and behaviour of local squid in nature. The team also collaborated with VEMCO to develop the VRAP (VEMCO Radio Acoustic Positioning) system and differential pressure transmitters to measure mantle cavity jet pressure and energetics.

Dale began working at VEMCO first as an Industrial PostDoc. After two years, he accepted the position of Sales Manager and has since moved into Marketing where he plays a key role in defining new VEMCO products, conducting customer workshops, delivering presentations at conferences, and providing field training to VEMCO equipment users. Dale also works closely with R&D, Sales, and Support in a consulting/advisory role.

When he's not working, you can often find Dale following his favourite sport of ice hockey - which is no big surprise given his solid Canadian roots! Beyond being a keen hockey fan, Dale's loftier interests include a keen interest in relativity theory and astronomy.

Once winter finally turns to summer in Nova Scotia, Dale likes to get away from the hectic pace of everyday life by indulging in another of his favourite activities - camping with his family. No doubt, it likely involves plenty of stargazing too.
