VEMCO Participates in Great Nova Scotia Pick Me Up

On Earth Day (April 22nd), 50 employees each volunteered an hour of time to help clean up our work neighbourhood. The melting of winter's snow revealed a cornucopia of garbage on the sides of our road and a collective effort was needed to make our work area look a bit more desirable.

Within six hours, teams of seven and eight staff members cleaned both sides of the road from the top end of our property line all the way down to the railway tracks and over 80 garbage bags were filled! The clean-up effort in front of our machine shop on the opposite side of the lake also yielded seven bags.

All in all, other businesses in the neighbourhood noticed and applauded our efforts, not to mention the hundreds of passing strangers who honked their horns in support of our volunteer clean-up crews.

We plan to make this a twice yearly event for the fall and spring. The next time, however, we will issue a challenge to other businesses in the park so the clean-up area can be significantly expanded!
