Useful Tips and Best Practices: Change VR2W Batteries in Cool, Dry Environments

Needless to say electronics and moisture do not work well together and as such VEMCO recommends that VR2W and VR2 receivers not be opened for battery replacement in hot humid environments (such as on the deck of a boat). The hot, moist air may get trapped inside the receiver and when the unit is deployed back into cold water the moisture from the humid air can condense on the electronics and possibly cause corrosion which could lead to premature failure.

To reduce the impact of corrosion and in keeping with industry standard best practices, a desiccant pack is included in all VR2Ws. Users are encouraged to replace this pack each time they make a battery change or open the VR2W case. For more information on desiccant packs, refer to our VR2W support page.
