VEMCO to Host Acoustic Telemetry Workshop in Sydney, Australia

The Australian Acoustic Tagging and Monitoring System (AATAMS) is hosting a VEMCO Acoustic Telemetry Workshop November 21-23 2007 at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), Mosman, Sydney.

The workshop, which focuses on VEMCO equipment and methodology, will bring together a wide range of acoustic telemetry users including representatives from academia, government organizations and industry. Areas of interest include array geometry and designs, deployment methodology, mooring types, and analyses of data with the aim of improving current and prospective studies.

The workshop will also include presentations by the Australian community and VEMCO staff as well as open discussions on acoustic telemetry related topics. Plenary talks will be given by VEMCO staff that will introduce their newest product, and discuss the current limitations and potential improvements of acoustic telemetry technology.

Dr. Alistair Hobday (CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research) will also give a presentation on receiver detection range and transmitter collision based on five years of data from deployment off Southwest Australia.

For more information about registration, accommodation, abstract submission, and presentation guidelines, contact Charlie Huveneers at charlie.huveneers@sims.org.au or visit the workshop website at www.sims.org.au/vemco_workshop.
